Among The Pots

Though ye have lien among the pots, yet shall ye be as the wings of a dove covered with silver, and her feathers with yellow gold.
Psalm 68:13

I came across this verse for the first time in a devotional that my friend gave me for my birthday. The part of the verse, 'among the pots' stuck to me like super glue all day. I couldn't get it out of my head for about a week before I decided to do some research into what on earth it meant. As it turns out there are many thoughts as to what the Psalmist was meaning. I am deciding to go with what I feel like the Lord was speaking to me the day I read it.

When I was first rolling the verse over in my mind that day, I pictured a bunch of pots at a nursery for sale. All empty and waiting to be purchased. Some of the pots were huge and expensive, some were made with crazy colors and some were small, chipped terra-cotta pots. I thought about how the destiny for each pot is to hold some sort of plant life. Some of the pots will hold giant trees and some will hold herbs or house plants. The pot doesn't get to choose what sort of life it gets, it just receives the contents and allows the planter to choose and sustain what is put inside of it. It is a vessel. The pots job is to receive life and to allow growth to take place inside of it.

The parallel is obvious. I am the pot. My job is to receive life and to allow growth to take place inside of me. And whatever fruit of blossom or leaf of change I produce is to glory of my planter. He is the one who has done the work. He is the one who chose me from among the pots and covers me with His wings.
